Toon Boom Animate: “Avatar…Airbender” styled eyes

OK, BEFORE I get any hate mail, this tutorial is NOT how to draw the eyes from the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender – More specifically, it is simply a tutorial on one way to COLOR eyes as they did in the series. :)

This simple technique really pushes a believable wet, glared, eye feel. I hope you enjoy this, please share, post, retweet, and leave comments.

Tonyteach’s Toon Boom DVD

Anatomy of a 30 Second Short DVDUPDATE: Busy week here in Tonyteach world, with lots of exciting things lining up, but we can’t spill the beans just yet. : )

We are working away on setting up the Toon Boom Animate DVD: Anatomy of a 30-second Short – Animation from Thought to Finish Pre-orders on Indie GoGo. The date to place your pre-orders has been moved to this Friday, February 17th.

Hey Campers, Tony Ross here. So ya wanna animate a short? To create a successful story, you should be able to explain it in a single sentence. Example: Geeky teenager gets bitten by radio-active spider, and gains super hero powers.

With this in mind, we are announcing today the title and summary of our upcoming Toon Boom Animate DVD: Anatomy of a 30-second Short – Animation from Thought to Finish…

Beaver Cola:
A soda company markets its product based on the fact that the primary ingredient in their beverage comes from the business end of a beaver.

By the way, the Beaver Cola company is a parody, but the ingredient “castoreum” is very real.

The DVD will show everything from the initial pitch, creating the piece in Toon Boom Animate, to the final 30 second short. We will be taking pre-orders via raising funds on Indie GoGo starting February 17. Our goal is to raise at least $1000, and the rewards will include being able to pre-purchase the entire DVD as a download for just $1! (limited to first 600 backers). The DVD will release March 30, 2012.

Public Storage Commercials Created with Animate Pro by Pencil Test Studios

As mentioned in their press release, Pencil Test Studios, Inc. has completed three animated advertisements for Public Storage using Toon Boom Animate Pro.

Created in a “marker on cardboard” style, the commercials follow “Stickman” as he journeys though a series of helpful storage tips and information: from navigating the PublicStorage.com web site, to showing the best ways to pack your stuff.

“Each commercial was designed to be both informative, and entertaining,” said Mike Dietz, co-founder of Pencil Test Studios. “The Phelps Group was great to work with and they were all really receptive to the funny ideas we came up with.”

While working on a tight schedule, Pencil Test Studios completed the three 90 second spots in about 8 weeks. “The challenge was to quickly create visuals that were amusing. We really had a lot of fun with the characters, and each animator brought a lot of personality to ‘Stickman,’” said Pencil Test Studios co-CEO, Ed Schofield.
